“Drawing, value patterns, complimentary colors and color perspective have become the main focus of my work” says Joyce. “Although I work in other media, I love the immediacy of pastel for landscape painting. I use the landscape, painting en plein air or by taking photographic reference, as a point of departure, pushing color and values to express the temperature and emotion of the scene.”
Nagel’s paintings can be found in private and corporate collections around the world, most notably Northwestern University Hospital and United Airlines in Chicago; AIM Associates and Anchor Bank on Hilton Head; First Federal Bank in Michigan; Duke University and Wachovia Bank in Winston-Salem; and the Compass Group in Charlotte.
Joyce and her husband Don, teach at the Art Academy of the Hilton Head Art League and have made several group painting trips to France and Italy. Recently they teamed up to give exciting duo pastel workshops.
